Riococo is Sri Lanka’s leading manufacturer of specialty coir substrates. The coir they produce is produced in-house, as is the production and quality control facility. The harvested coir undergoes a curing period of 4-6 weeks, after which the fibres are separated and sorted. This process adjusts the EC and increases the flexibility of the fibres and their durability without any deterioration. The product is then washed 4 times with water and once more with steam, which removes contaminants and salts. This process is called MaxWash and reduces the Na and Cl levels to below 70 ppm.
During the production process of the different coir blends, fine particles less than 5 mm are removed just before the product is compressed; this results in better drainage, overall expansion, better nutrient absorption and lower water consumption. Precisely because there is greater aeration and more availability of nutrients, production increases by 10 to 15%.
RioCoco works with the highest quality standards of the Sri Lankan government and, in fact, its factories are ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 certified. There is a wide variety of Riococo products for cultivation from seed germination or cutting production, to production.
