The filter and connections are a special filter to retain solid sediments before they reach the drippers and clog them. It is a removable filter, which is why it is washable and can be unclogged quickly.

The filter + connections are perfect for installation in automatic irrigation since we can ensure that the solid particles will be retained and not obstruct irrigation.
