Hygrozyme is OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) approved, and is a naturally derived organic solution specifically designed to facilitate the transformation and expulsion of decomposed organic matter that may have accumulated in the media or on media surfaces – without disrupting the normal course of decomposition.
It acts as a “cleaner” prior to or in conjunction with the sterilization of containerized growing media such as plastic mesh, soil, rock wool, coco coir, or agricultural equipment including but not limited to greenhouse tools, hydroponic systems, aeration stones, pipes, pumps, watering cans, drip systems, and nutrient reservoirs.
Hygrozyme is the only known natural cleaner on the market that is sterile (bacteria-free) and inert. Hygrozyme is produced to ISO (International Standards Organization) standards and is considered medical grade. The technology was identified and originally developed for hospitals. It is now considered the “Gold Standard” of passive cleaning in almost all hospitals for the purpose of cleaning surgical equipment. Chemicals alone have been proven to not remove decomposed organic matter prior to sterilization.
This natural cleaner is the only one that can be used in conjunction with other standard cleaning chemicals (e.g. hydrogen peroxide). It can be used alone, when the use of chemicals is prohibited or not advisable.

Increased yield
Healthy plants grow bigger, stronger and faster than diseased plants. A clean growing medium promotes healthy plant growth. Hygrozyme helps maintain cleanliness. When the environment is clean, the plant has less competition for food and oxygen, and therefore less stress.
When Hygrozyme helps convert dead matter into usable energy for the plant, the plant has a greater food supply. The common result of a healthy plant with more food and less stress is expanded roots. Greater root mass allows for greater growth.
Cuttings and Cloning
Hygrozyme is an excellent solution in cutting and cloning processes. It can be used either alone, 1.5 ml per litre, or in conjunction with your preferred cloning compound. Tests have shown that in the presence of Hygrozyme accelerated growth of up to 30% faster than conventional methods.
When used on seed, it is most effective when used immediately after seed germination. Again, CSRI testing showed robust growth, with typical growth rates up to 30% faster than conventional methods.
Hygrozyme is compatible with all standard cloning and cutting formulations and can be used in conjunction with other solutions or alone.
Use with soil, peat, coco coir, rockwool and water
In tests reviewed by the Canadian Institute of Science and Research (CSRI), Hygrozyme has been found to be “excellent” at maintaining longer use of hydroponic systems and solutions. An increase in longevity of up to 30% has been experienced. In terms of soil, Hygrozyme has been shown to increase soil porosity by accelerating the breakdown of organic matter. Its main function is to vigorously rid the medium of organic matter, preventing the medium from contracting disease.
As a media rejuvenator, it is used post-harvest as a soaking solution and should be applied once the substrate is watered. A rapid and almost complete reduction of dead biomass can be observed at a concentration of 2.5 to 3.75 ml per litre. Available nutrients are released in the process and, depending on circumstances, can become an excellent source of plant energy available for future growth.
Prophylactic in disease prevention – mildew
Hygrozyme is a highly refined enzymatic cleaner/decomposer for dead matter. Being sterile and inert, Hygrozyme cannot kill anything. Its key role, therefore, is to act as a prophylactic.
Many leaf-transmitted diseases, such as black spot, mildew, flourish in the presence of dead matter. Transferred by humans, macro-organisms or airborne inputs can quickly settle in the presence of dead matter.
Regular use of Hygrozyme can act as a deterrent by removing dead matter and simultaneously encouraging the presence of beneficial microorganisms on foliage surfaces and in the growing medium or hydroponic solution. This is especially the case in combination with compost extracts containing micro-organisms. For best results it should be used from the start in a clean system to maintain these conditions. Applications at a rate of 1.5 ml per litre are sufficient.
Flowers and Vegetables
Hygrozyme has been proven to maintain the visual appearance and continued health of a wide variety of flowers: roses, chrysanthemums, lilacs, orchids, etc., as well as a wide variety of harvested vegetables. By using Hygrozyme throughout the growing cycle, vegetables (fruits, greens, herbs, etc.) stay fresher for longer and look attractive and healthy. This significantly reduces the amount of waste.
CSRI tests with flowers show that by adding Hygrozyme to a daily water change, they can last for over 14 days (with proper pruning and removal of dead leaves). Another unique quality of Hygrozyme is that it is the only known product on the market that can be used in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide at a 1-2% ppm solution. By adding a 1-2% hydrogen peroxide solution, the results are even more remarkable.
Use in Hydroponic Systems
The function of Hygrozyme in pure hydroponic systems is to act as a refined and natural facilitator/cleaner. Hygrozyme helps to remove and transform dead organic matter facilitating and accelerating the natural decomposition process. What normally takes weeks can be accomplished in minutes with the presence of specific natural enzymes. In a closed hydroponic system there are many factors that can facilitate the development of disease. The buildup of dead matter is usually the contributing factor to this common problem.
The buildup of dead organic matter occurs in pipes and pumps where there may be “areas” of dead matter. This usually occurs at 90º bends in pipes and in air stones and pumps. This buildup of dead organic matter can provide ideal conditions for harmful microorganisms to breed. Cleaning out these bio-films can be, and is, a difficult process once the system has been neglected for even a short period of time. In some cases, just a few minutes or seconds in an area of the system that has less than 6 mg per liter of oxygen can create a septic environment. Bio-films are difficult to clean out. Many experts believe that the pathogens that form can actually pass through the surfaces of old, degraded plastics and continue to grow even after apparent sterilization, since “soil” cannot be sterilized.
Accepted as the “gold standard” in the medical and surgical instrument industry, enzymatic formulas have proven effective in hydroponics. Used from the beginning (as directed) – when starting with a clean system – Hygrozyme will help prevent the build-up of biofilms that lead to disease.
Hygrozyme is effective in helping to keep pipe, pump, tank and tray surfaces free of biofilm build-up.
Application
REMEMBER: Hygrozyme does not kill anything. To be effective, it must be used before dead matter has a chance to develop and “attach” to surfaces creating biofilm buildup – like the fire insurance on your house that must be purchased before the fire hits.
Since Hygrozyme is the only known solution on the market that can be used in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide at a 1-2% ppm solution, some operators use this combination to clean, sterilize and oxygenate roots.
