The Ulti-Mite Swirski is a predatory mite that controls several pests such as whitefly, thrips and spider mites in horticultural and ornamental crops, and quickly establishes itself by developing a strong population in response to increasing pest pressure. Like Amblyseius cucumeris, Swirski feeds on the first instar larvae of thrips. The major difference is the greater speed of establishing a population with Swirski, which results in more efficient control. It also controls whitefly, feeding on the eggs and first instar larvae. Since the parasitic wasps used to control whitefly parasitize the second, third and fourth instar larvae, Swirski is an excellent complement to existing whitefly control strategies. Spider mites are also controlled if they are the only pest in the greenhouse. However, if the pest is installed in the greenhouse, specific predators should be added (pHytoseiulus persimilis or Amblyseius californicus).
The Ulti-MiteSwirski comes in sachets containing 250 individuals and which are hung halfway up the plant. The best way to use Swirski is to hang one sachet per plant as a preventative measure (even if there are no pests).
These sachets contain the predatory mite Amblyseius swirskII which preys on several pests, mainly Thrips (young larvae), Whitefly (eggs and larvae) and Red Spider (eggs and nymphs).
The sachets are small biofactories that continuously produce A. Swirski for several weeks. Predatory mites emerge from the sachet, actively seek out the pest and suck it dry.
